How can you determine if the Beckman LS6500 CRT terminal has failed?

If you're considering purchasing the LS6500 READY! Wyse Winterm module from Service AI as a replacement for your failed Beckman Coulter LS6500 CRT terminal, it's important to first confirm whether your CRT terminal is really dead or not. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Is the screen blank? If so, it's possible that the issue lies with the LS power supply inside the unit, rather than the CRT itself.

To check whether the LS power supply is working properly, you'll need to remove the front cover of the LS6500. Here's how:

  1. Loosen (but do not remove) the lower front screws on each side of the LS6500, as well as the two front screws that are visible when you lift the sample compartment lid up. There may also be two screws under the lip of the front panel that need to be removed. Usually, these two screws are removed during installation, so they will be missing in most cases.

  2. Lift off the front cover.

Once you have access to the inside of the LS6500, take a look at the enclosed picture of the LS6500 power supply box to confirm that the LS power supply is functioning properly. The black box shown in the picture contains a piggy back board with LEDs that should be ON if the LS power supply box is okay.

To determine whether your existing Wyse terminal/module needs to be replaced, check the LED status on the LS Main board as shown in the enclosed picture. If the LED pattern matches "00110001" and your Wyse terminal module's display remains frozen on the startup screen during instrument start-up, this confirms that the CRT or Wyse module is faulty.
